Prairie Brass Band Festival
The Prairie Brass Band Festival is a two day music festival of rehearsals and a final concert consisting of Brass Bands from the cities of Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, and Brandon. The first PBBF was held in Saskatoon in 2001. The bands converge on the host city for a weekend of Brass Band music rehearsals and end with a public concert on the Saturday evening. A guest conductor is often invited to conduct the massed band of approximately 100 musicians, and occassionally a new composition is commissioned for the event. For the final concert each band performs two or three selections, and all the bands form a single massed band that performs three or four selections. The Brass Band in each city takes its turn hosting the festival.
It is a fun weekend for Brass Banders to get together and play and perform music unique to the idiom of the British Brass Band. Over the years friendships have formed with musicians from other bands and we all look forward to this annual weekend event.
